Find it in a minute

Where the model number is on your unit

It depends on the appliance. Inside the fresh food compartment on a refrigerator, usually high on the left or right wall. On the edge of the door on a dishwasher. On the frame inside the door on a wall oven or a range. Behind a filter on a hood. Inside the door frame on a microwave, a washer or a dryer. Behind the grille at the bottom on an undercounter cabinet, and inside the door frame on a wine cellar.

Take a photograph rather than writing it down. The full number includes the letters after the digits — those decide which parts fit, and they are the part people misread most often.

What a repair costs
A hand holding a phone up to photograph a blank metal label riveted inside an appliance door frame.

By what it is doing

Or start from the symptom

If you do not have the number to hand, start from what the unit is doing. Every symptom page says what to check first and when it stops being a five-minute job.

  • A stainless dishwasher door at counter height in a dim kitchen, one small round indicator glowing warm orange on the otherwise blank steel.
    That blinking is a code

    The Clean light is blinking

The most searched complaint on this whole make, and the one most people throw away by canceling it. A blinking Clean light is not a general complaint — it is the same error code a machine with a display would print, delivered as flashes because yours has no numbers to print it on.

    What it usually means
  • Looking down into the bottom of an open dishwasher tub with two inches of grey standing water covering the floor of it, the lower rack lifted out and set aside.
    Water still in the tub

    Dishwasher will not drain

A cycle that finishes — or stops — with water standing in the bottom of the tub. Four of the five things that cause this are outside the machine or free to clear, which is why this one is worth ten minutes before it is worth a visit.

    What it usually means
  • A plate held up to the light with dried food still stuck to it and a gritty film across the surface, an open dishwasher soft in the background.
    Gritty, filmed or still soiled

    Dishes are coming out dirty

Three different complaints hide under one sentence: food still on the plates, grit deposited on them, and a white film on glassware that is not soil at all. They have different causes and only one of them is usually a repair.

    What it usually means
  • An open dishwasher rack of upturned glasses and plastic containers with water still pooled in every hollow, steam gone, close from slightly above.
    Usually not a breakdown

Everything is clean and nothing is dry

One of the few pages here that mostly exists to save you a service call. These machines dry with a fan and residual heat rather than by baking the load, and three of the four usual causes are free to fix at the sink.

    What it usually means
  • A hand pressing a blank brushed steel control strip along the top edge of an open dishwasher door, nothing lit anywhere on it.
    Lights on, nothing happens

    Dishwasher will not start

A machine with power that will not begin a cycle is a much shorter problem than a dead one. On these dishwashers it is nearly always the door, the control lock, a delay setting nobody meant to press, or a code the machine is quietly flashing at you.

    What it usually means
  • A completely dry dishwasher tub floor with the filter cylinder in the middle of it, no water anywhere, the spray arm still.
    It runs, nothing sprays

Dishwasher is not filling with water

A machine that starts a cycle and never takes water, or takes so little that nothing sprays properly. The supply side is short, mostly outside the appliance, and easy to work through in order.

Your number is not listed?

This is a list of what people ask about, not of what we repair.

103 numbers have pages here because those are the ones people search for by number. We work on the rest of the range as well — the pages simply follow demand rather than the catalog.

Tell us the number from the data plate and what the unit is doing, and we will tell you what the machine is, what the symptom usually points at, and what the work involves. Call (305) 306-1328, or send a photograph of the plate through the form above.

Questions about models and parts

Is a twenty-year-old unit still worth repairing?

Usually, yes. These were built to be repaired, and a legacy cabinet in good condition with sound cabinetry is worth keeping. Where it stops being worth it is when the work approaches what the unit is worth, or when a second major failure is already visible — and we will say so on the visit rather than after.

Can you still get parts for the older units?

For most of what fails, yes — OEM parts are available on order, though legacy parts can take a few days to source. That is why we confirm a part is the problem before ordering it rather than after.

Why do you not list the specifications for each model?

Because we cannot verify them. Capacity, dimensions and production years published second-hand are wrong often enough that a table of them would be a liability, and inventing one would break our own rule about publishing only what we can stand behind. What we do publish is what the number means for the repair.

The number on my unit has letters after it. Does that matter?

Yes, for parts. The digits identify the family; the letters identify the configuration, and two units sharing the same digits can take different components. Photograph the whole plate and we will read it from there.

Do you work on the current range as well?

Yes, the whole current range. These pages exist because a number is what people search by; everything else this maker sells is covered on the appliance pages.

In more detail

What a KitchenAid model number decides, and what it does not

On this badge the number does more work than usual

The codes here are not this maker’s alone. F8E4 and F6E4 sit at identical addresses under three different names in the same group, and one range service manual carries three of those names in its own title. So a code tells you which circuit reported and almost nothing about which machine you own. The model number on the plate is what closes that gap, and it is why we ask for it before anything else.

Where the plate is

Inside the dishwasher door, on the right-hand edge, visible only with the door open. On the oven door frame, behind the door. Behind the kickplate at the bottom of a range, or on the frame under the control panel. Inside the door opening of a washer or dryer. On the inside wall of a refrigerator, along the upper left. Photograph the whole plate rather than typing it out: the letters after the digits decide which parts fit and they are the half people leave off.

The first letters say what it is

KDT and KDF begin a dishwasher, KRF and KRM a refrigerator, KOS and KOD a wall oven, KMB and KMC a microwave, KCG and KCI a gas and an induction cooktop, KUI and KUW an undercounter ice maker and a wine cellar. That is worth knowing only so you can check you are reading the right plate. Everything after those letters is what a parts counter actually needs.

There is no series on this site, and that is deliberate

Architect Series II survives on two spare-part handles, Superba returns nothing in the maker’s own search, and Pro Line and Design Series are countertop equipment rather than built-in. A page organized by series would be organized by names that no longer identify anything, so this list is organized by number.

If the plate is unreadable

Ordinary near the water, and common in a garage laundry. Send a photograph of whatever is left, with the appliance type and roughly when it was installed, and we narrow it down from the serial or from what is visible. It does not stop a repair, and this list of 103 numbers is what people ask about rather than the limit of what we cover.

Send the plate, and what it is doing.

A photograph of the data plate and a line about the symptom is enough for us to say what is likely and what it should cost.
