Measure the opening before anything is ordered
Width, depth, height and what is on either side. A counter-depth cabinet and a full-depth one are not the same opening, and a stone counter does not move afterwards.

The water shut-off and its line, the drain and its loop or air gap, the circuit and the breaker, and where a hood or a vented dryer actually ducts to. This is the half that decides whether the appliance works well or merely works.

Fit, level and seal
Levelled on all four feet, doors set true, and a panel front hung to line up with your cabinetry rather than with the appliance. On a built-in that is most of the labor.

Why the day it goes in decides the first year
An appliance that is not level runs noisier, seals worse and wears unevenly. A dishwasher connected to a disposal whose knockout plug is still in place will not drain at all. A hood ducted into a long run with several bends loses most of its airflow before it reaches the wall. A vented dryer sharing a crushed flexible hose behind the machine takes three cycles to dry. None of these are failures, and all of them get reported as one.

Do you take the old appliance away?
We disconnect it safely and move it clear, which is the part with water and gas in it. Disposal depends on the building and on what it is — say when you book and we will tell you what is possible at your address.
My new dishwasher will not drain and it is brand new.
On a first installation that is very often the disposal knockout plug, which is fitted from the factory and has to be removed before a dishwasher is connected to it. It is the single most common new-installation call there is, and it is not a broken machine.
Can you fit a panel front from my cabinetmaker?
Yes, and it is worth having done rather than doing at the end of a kitchen job. A panel that is heavy or slightly out of square pulls the door out of alignment, and on a dishwasher that eventually costs a door seal.
