Everything cheaper, first
A cabinet running warm is a condenser, a fan, a damper, a door seal or a defrost circuit long before it is the sealed system. Those are ruled out before a refrigerant circuit is opened, because opening one that did not need opening cannot be undone.

Prove the compressor rather than condemn it
Windings, the start relay and the overload are tested first. A compressor that clicks, hums and stops is very often a relay costing a fraction of one.

Find the leak before adding anything
A system recharged without locating where the charge went is a repair that fails again within a season. The filter drier is replaced with the repair — it has been collecting moisture since the leak started.

Run it back down and hold it
The cabinet is pulled down to its set point and held under load before the appointment ends. A sealed system repair that has not been checked under load is not finished.

It is closed, which is why a leak in it does not announce itself the way a broken part does: the appliance keeps running and simply stops holding temperature. That is also why diagnosis matters more here than anywhere else on this list.

How do I know it is the sealed system and not something cheaper?
Usually you do not, and that is exactly the point of diagnosing first. On the cabinets this maker builds, a warm compartment is far more often airflow or defrost than refrigerant. We rule those out before proposing anything at this level.
Is it worth it on an older cabinet?
Sometimes genuinely yes, and sometimes no. On a sound built-in column trimmed into your cabinetry, replacing a compressor usually makes sense because the alternative involves the millwork. On a fifteen-year-old freestanding refrigerator with a second failure already visible, it usually does not, and we will say so on the visit rather than after the invoice.
Why is the figure so much higher than the others on this site?
Because it is hours of work rather than minutes, it needs recovery and evacuation equipment, and the part is the most expensive one in the cabinet. It is also the reason everything above it on the list gets checked first.
