How this visit actually goes

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

    Ask which compartment is wrong

Cold freezer and warm refrigerator is a different investigation from a whole cabinet that is warm. In these cabinets the freezer does the cooling and the air is moved across, so the first one is nearly always air rather than refrigerant.

  2. 02

    Look at the evaporator

Behind the back panel of the freezer. A coil buried in a block of ice explains the warm side entirely, and it tells you the defrost cycle has stopped finishing its job.

  3. 03

Test the three parts of the defrost circuit

The heater, the thermostat or bimetal that lets it run, and the control that calls for it. One of the three, and they are told apart by measuring rather than by replacing in turn.

  4. 04

Then the fan and the damper

An evaporator fan that has stopped moving air produces the same warm refrigerator with a working compressor, and it is a far smaller part. The damper that meters air into the fresh food side is checked with it.

The money

What this usually costs in South Florida

The starting figure, the range the market quotes around it, and what pushes a job to either end.

  • Refrigerator not cooling: repair cost

Where most refrigeration calls actually land, and the band you reach the expensive one by eliminating. Airflow, defrost, dampers and sensors — everything between "it is not cold" and the sealed system.

    • Researched market range: evaporator fan $200–$400; defrost heater $200–$450
    • A warm fresh-food side with a cold freezer is airflow, not refrigerant
    • Sensors and thermistors are $100–$250 and are the cheap answer

    KitchenAid freezer repair in Miami

This make does not sell a standalone freezer, and that is worth saying plainly: the freezer here is the bottom drawer of a French-door cabinet, one column of a side-by-side, or a refrigerated drawer set to freeze. It is still the half people call about, because a freezer that stops is a freezer full of food.

    • Frost building on the walls or under the drawer
    • Cold, but not frozen — ice cream soft and meat soft
    • A drawer that will not close because ice is holding it

About KitchenAid refrigerator defrost & cooling repair

Why one side goes warm and the other does not

A KitchenAid French door, side-by-side or bottom-mount cabinet makes its cold in one place and shares it. When the fresh food side drifts and the freezer holds, the cold is still being made and something has stopped it arriving — which is why the expensive answer people expect is usually the wrong one.

What actually goes wrong

  • The defrost heater, thermostat or control. The coil ices over, air stops moving through it, and the refrigerator warms while the freezer stays cold.
  • The evaporator fan, which produces the identical symptom for a fraction of the price.
  • The damper that meters air into the fresh food compartment.
  • The thermistors, which read temperature in several places and make a cabinet behave strangely rather than stop when one lies by a few degrees.
  • The condenser, matted with dust that is damp here rather than loose, which makes a cabinet run long and cool badly.

Chipping the ice out is not the repair

A coil can be cleared in twenty minutes and the cabinet will work beautifully for two weeks. If the reason the defrost cycle stopped finishing has not been found, it ices again — which is why this job includes proving the circuit rather than only the symptom.

What it costs

From $245. A defrost heater and an evaporator fan sit at different levels, and a built-in cabinet adds access time. The exact cost is confirmed after the on-site diagnostic, in writing, before anything is opened.

Questions about KitchenAid refrigerator defrost & cooling repair

The fridge is warm and the freezer is fine. Is that the compressor?

Almost never. These cabinets cool in the freezer and move that air into the fresh food side, so a cold freezer proves the cooling is working. What has stopped is the delivery — a damper, an evaporator fan, or a defrost problem that has iced the coil solid. All three are ordinary repairs.

How long before I should throw the food out?

A closed refrigerator holds safe temperature for about four hours and a full freezer for roughly two days, and every opening costs time. Move what matters to a cooler, keep the doors shut, and decide with a thermometer rather than by feel.

It was fine until the power went out.

Then look at the display first. These cabinets show a power outage notice — PO on many of them — which is a message rather than a failure, and it wants acknowledging before the panel goes back to normal. If the cabinet is genuinely not cooling after that, it is a service call, and it is worth mentioning the outage when you book.

What does this repair cost?

From $245, moving with the part and with the cabinet — a built-in column trimmed into your millwork takes longer to reach than a freestanding French door. The exact cost is confirmed after the on-site diagnostic and agreed before we start.
