A radiant element or an infinite switch is the bottom of this band. The ceramic surface is the top: it is model-specific, it is ordered rather than stocked, and availability is confirmed before booking because it sometimes decides against the repair entirely.

Safety first, and it is short
A cracked ceramic or induction surface goes off at the breaker and stays off until it is replaced. Not turned off at the controls — off at the breaker. That is not caution for its own sake: the surface is what keeps liquid away from live components underneath it.
Why induction usually costs less than people expect
Because most induction calls are not failures. The appliance monitors its own temperature and will shut a zone down when it cannot get rid of heat, which in a hot kitchen with a solid counter under the top happens more here than in most places. And a pan a magnet will not hold firmly is not a pan the cooktop can see — it is not a problem with the cooktop at all. Those outcomes cost the visit and an explanation, and telling somebody that is a better use of the appointment than fitting a module.
Where the money actually is
- The glass, at a researched $300 to $600 plus the labor. Ordered to the model, and the appliance stays off at the breaker until it arrives.
- An induction generator module, at a researched $300 to $700. It belongs to the module rather than to the badge — the same class of generator sits under several makes' glass, which is why induction figures are closer between brands than any other row.

Downdraft versions
Some of these cooktops have the ventilation built into them, with a blower inside the counter. When the cooking side is fine and the vent has stopped, that is priced on the venting page rather than here — it is a different mechanism in a different place.

On a radiant top that is usually the element or its switch, which is the bottom of this band. On induction it is more often the zone protecting itself, and the first question is what is underneath the counter and whether the appliance has air.
One of my pans stopped working on the induction top.
Then nothing is wrong with the cooktop. A magnet has to hold firmly on the base for induction to see the pan at all, and pans change — a base can delaminate, and a replacement that looks identical may not be magnetic.
My glass is cracked but everything still works.
Turn it off at the breaker anyway and leave it off. The surface is what keeps spills away from live components underneath, and a crack that looks cosmetic is not.
Is the glass worth replacing?
