On the visit

How this visit actually goes

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

    Do the lights work?

A useful question, because working lights say the hood has power. That leaves the switch or control, the blower motor, and on some models a thermal cut-out that has tripped after the hood ran hot.

  2. 02

Test the fan on each speed

Working on high only is the speed control. Humming without turning is the motor or something fouling the wheel. Silent on every speed with lights on is the switch or the control.

  3. 03

Look at the wheel and the filters

A blower wheel caked with grease is out of balance and loud, and it costs the motor. Cleaning it is part of the job rather than an extra.

  4. 04

Check the lamps are the right ones

Halogen fittings retro-fitted with the wrong lamp run hot and take out the socket. It is a small thing that produces a repeat failure.

The money

What this usually costs in South Florida

The starting figure, the range the market quotes around it, and what pushes a job to either end.

  • Range hood and venting repair cost

The cheapest band on this site, and we would rather say so than pad it. Everything that moves air out of your kitchen is priced here — canopy hoods, insert liners, the vent side of a microwave-hood combination, and the downdraft that rises out of the counter.

    • Researched market range: hood repair $100–$400; capacitor $120–$250; blower motor $250–$550
    • A hum with no rotation is usually a capacitor, at the bottom of the band
    • The downdraft is the top: mechanical before it is electrical

KitchenAid range hood repair in Miami

The appliance that gets attention only when it is silent, and the one whose maintenance is genuinely all an owner needs to do. Wall-mounted canopies, under-cabinet hoods, island hoods, insert liners for custom millwork, and the retractable downdraft that rises out of the counter.

    • A fan that does nothing on any speed
    • Lights working but no extraction, or the other way round
    • A downdraft that will not rise, or will not go back down

About KitchenAid range hood blower & switch repair

Every kind this make sells

Wall-mount canopies at 30 and 36 inches, under-cabinet hoods including low profile, island hoods, Commercial-Style hoods to match the Commercial-Style ranges, custom liners that go inside your own millwork, and retractable downdrafts. Some carry UXT, UVL or WVW numbers rather than a K — those are genuine vents sold under this name, not another brand.

What actually goes wrong

  • The blower motor, announced by noise long before it stops.
  • The switch or control panel, which is where grease and heat meet.
  • Lights and their sockets, and halogen fittings running the wrong lamp.
  • The damper, stuck shut on a ducted installation.
  • The blower wheel, out of balance under years of grease.

High-rise kitchens

In an apartment tower the duct beyond your wall may not be yours to change, and a hood that has never worked well is sometimes a hood fighting a shared run rather than a hood with a problem. It is worth knowing that before anything is bought, and it is the kind of thing we would rather tell you on the visit.

What it costs

From $165. The exact cost is confirmed after the on-site diagnostic.

Questions about KitchenAid range hood blower & switch repair

The lights work but the fan does nothing.

Useful, because it proves the hood has power. That narrows it to the switch or control, the blower motor, or a thermal cut-out that has tripped. And if yours is a microwave-hood combination, it is not a hood repair at all — the fan belongs to the microwave.

It has become much louder than it used to be.

Usually the blower wheel loaded with grease and out of balance, or a motor bearing on its way out. Noise is the warning these give you months before they stop, and cleaning at that point is far cheaper than a motor.

The hood runs but does not seem to pull anything.

Filters first — grease filters strangle a hood as they load, and a recirculating installation has a charcoal filter that has to be replaced rather than washed. After that it is the damper on a ducted run, or a duct with more bends and length than the hood can push against.

What does the repair cost?

From $165, with a switch or a light socket at the low end and a blower motor above it. The exact cost is confirmed after the on-site diagnostic and agreed with you first.
