Control lock first
Most of these lock the panel from a long press on one of the number keys, and it is switched on by accident constantly. It costs nothing to rule out and it ends a fair number of these calls.

A proper power cycle
Five full minutes at the breaker rather than a few seconds at the plug. On an appliance with a dark display that is the next step before anything is called failed.

Test the interlocks together
The switches in the door latch are a set and the appliance stops the moment they disagree with each other. That produces a machine that is completely dead with nothing visibly wrong, which is one of the most confusing symptoms in a kitchen.

Every microwave carries a set of switches in its door latch whose only job is to prove the door is really shut. They are deliberately unforgiving: if they stop agreeing with each other, the appliance shuts down completely rather than run. It is a good design and a confusing symptom, because from the front the machine simply appears to have died.

Try the control lock first — a long press on one of the marked keys usually clears it, and it gets switched on by accident all the time. If the panel is genuinely dead, cut the power at the breaker for five full minutes before assuming a part. After that it is the touch panel or the board, which are separate parts.
