Run the machine's own cleaning cycle properly
With the correct solution and long enough. Most of these machines have a cycle built in; what they cannot do is clean themselves afterwards, which is the half that gets skipped.

Descale the water path
Evaporator plate, pump and lines. Scale is what turns clear ice cloudy and small, and it insulates the plate so the machine works harder for less every cycle.

The bin, the scoop and the drain
The parts nobody thinks of and the only ones you can actually see. A slow drain stops a perfectly good machine, and a gravity drain laid with too little fall never worked properly in the first place.

Restart it and watch a batch
These machines often need the power cycling and the cycle acknowledging before they go back to making ice, which is why so many "it will not restart after cleaning" calls are not failures at all.

How often does this need doing?
More often here than the manual assumes — realistically a couple of times a year, and more if the machine is in a bar area or outdoors under cover. Hard water and warm air both push it in the same direction.
It will not start again after I cleaned it.
Very common and usually not a failure. The cleaning cycle has to finish and be acknowledged, the drain has to be clear, and most of these need the power cycling before they go back to making ice. Walk that sequence before calling anybody out.
Is cloudy ice a sign of something?
Yes, and a useful one. Clear ice is made by freezing slowly in layers so air and minerals are pushed out; cloudy ice means that process is being cut short, usually by water quality or a scaled evaporator. It generally appears months before a machine actually stops, which makes it the cheapest warning you will get.
What does a cleaning visit cost?
