Establish what is actually lit
On an integrated machine the controls are along the top edge of the door, so nothing can be seen with the door shut. Open first, look second — a panel that is dark and a panel that is lit and unresponsive are two different repairs.

Control lock, which is switched on by accident constantly, and a proper power cycle at the breaker for five full minutes rather than a few seconds. Both are documented resets and both cost nothing.

Front control and integrated control
Every current dishwasher on this make is 24 inches wide and comes one of two ways: front control, with the buttons on the face of the door, or integrated control, with them hidden along the top edge so the front is a clean panel. It changes nothing about the machine underneath and a great deal about diagnosing a dead panel, because on an integrated machine you cannot see whether anything is lit without opening the door.
What actually goes wrong
- Control lock, switched on by accident. Free to undo.
- The touch panel, which stops working reliably when there is water on it and permanently when water has been behind it.
- The control board, which is where a machine ends up after a brownout.
- The door latch and its switch, without which the machine will not start at all.
- Springs, cables and hinges, on a door heavier than it looks — heavier still with your cabinetry on it.
The code is worth more than the symptom
This maker writes its codes as an F number and an E number, and a machine with no display flashes the same pair on the Clean light. Both halves matter: F7 E1 and F7 E0 are related and not the same, and F1 E1 has nothing to do with either. Counting the flashes before you cancel is the difference between a diagnosis and a guess.

The buttons do nothing.
Try the control lock first — it is usually a long press on one of the marked keys and it is switched on by accident all the time. If the panel is genuinely dead, cut the power at the breaker for five full minutes before assuming anything. After that it is the touch panel or the board, which are separate parts.
The Clean light is blinking and nothing else happens.
Then the machine has a code for you. It arrives in two bursts — first the F number, a pause, then the E number, a long pause, and it repeats. Count both and write them down before you cancel the cycle, because canceling clears it and the machine has no way to tell you again.
The door falls open instead of staying put.
A spring or a hinge cable, and it is a small job worth doing promptly. A door that swings takes the seal with it and eventually the hinge mounting, and on an integrated machine it is also carrying the weight of your own cabinet panel.
My machine opens its own door at the end of the cycle. Is that broken?
No — that is the drying working as designed on the models that do it. These machines dry with a fan and residual heat rather than by baking the load, and popping the door releases the moisture. A door that opens and then will not close again is a different matter and is worth a look.
