Start at the drain hose and the trap, then check the lid switch or the door lock — a machine that does not believe the lid is shut will not spin, and on a top-loader that is one small switch producing a very dramatic symptom. ### Old machines, honest conversations KitchenAid stopped selling laundry in the United States in the second half of the 2000s. Everything still running here is well past the age at which a repair is automatically worth doing, so the useful thing we can offer is a straight assessment: what is wrong, what it costs, and whether we would spend that on this machine. The standpipe, not the machine A drain shared with a slow sink, or a standpipe too narrow for the pump. A machine can be defeated by the plumbing it was connected to. Redistribute the load and try again Especially with anything large and heavy. A machine that then spins perfectly has told you it is healthy and had a bad Monday. Look at the drain hose Kinked behind the machine, pushed too far down the standpipe, or draining into a sink that is itself slow. All three are outside the appliance. Test the lid switch by hand On a top-loader, press the plunger in the frame and listen. If the machine changes its mind about spinning, you have found it. Then book the visit Tell us the full model number from inside the lid or the door frame, whether it is a top-loader or a front-loader, and whether there is water in it right now.
