# KitchenAid the appliance will not turn on at all

### The fastest diagnosis is proving the supply

Check the breaker properly — switch it fully off and back on rather than looking at it, because a breaker can trip without moving far enough to see. Then, on a built-in appliance, find out whether it is fed from a switched spur inside a cabinet. In a kitchen that has had any work done, that switch being off is more common than it sounds.

### Dead is easier than intermittent

An appliance showing nothing at all has a short list: the supply, a door switch, or the control. The supply is more than half of it, especially in a kitchen that has had work done, where a built-in appliance is often fed from a switched spur inside a cabinet that somebody turned off and nobody thought about again.

### The power cycle that is not folklore

Off at the breaker, one full minute, back on. It is the manufacturer’s own documented first step for several control codes, and it clears a control that was caught mid-write during a brownout. If it works, it works. If the appliance dies again the same way, that is real information and worth telling us when you book.

A GFCI outlet that has tripped

Common in kitchens and garages, and the reset button is often on a different outlet in the same circuit rather than on the one you are looking at.

A door switch or control lock

On a machine that has lights and will not respond. It does not believe the door is shut, or somebody has locked the panel by accident.

The control board

When the supply is proved and a full power cycle changes nothing. Last on the list, and where a brownout leaves an appliance.

Cycle the breaker fully

All the way off, five seconds, all the way on. A tripped breaker often does not look tripped, and on an electric dryer or cooktop it is a double-pole breaker where only one half may have gone.

Look for a switched spur or a GFCI

Inside adjacent cabinets, and along the counter. A GFCI reset button anywhere on the circuit can be what is holding your appliance off.

Try the outlet with something else

A lamp or a phone charger, where the appliance plugs in rather than being wired. It takes a minute and it settles the supply question completely.

Then book the visit

Tell us whether anything at all lights up, whether it happened after a storm, and whether it has come back once already before dying again.

No lights, no response

### Everything else in the kitchen works.

That is worth knowing but it does not clear the supply — most large appliances are on their own circuit. The breaker for a dishwasher or an oven is a different breaker from the one feeding the counter outlets, so it is worth finding and cycling the right one.

### It came back on by itself and then died again.

An intermittent supply or a control that is failing rather than failed. Both are real, and the pattern is useful: tell us how long it ran and what it was doing when it went. Intermittent problems are much easier to find when somebody has kept notes.

### Is a five-minute power cycle really worth trying?

Yes, and the manufacturer names resetting power as the first step for a number of its control codes. Brownouts in a South Florida summer are common, a board interrupted while writing can come up confused, and a full minute at the breaker clears a genuine share of them.
